Metalion :
How to talk about Mayhem without to talk about Metalion ?
Even if he was not in the band, Jon Kristiansen has contributed enormously to the development of Mayhem, the Norwegian and Swedish metal scene.
His first fanzine was Livewire.
He stopped it short time after and then he began publishing Slayer Mag., whose first issue was published in February 1985.
He met Mayhem the same year.
Also, he is the former of the record label : Head Not Found.

Maniac :
Sven-Erik Kristiansen is considered the second singer (after Messiah) but in reality, in the chronology of the band he is the fourth (after Nils, Stele and Messiah).
He was in the band from 1986 to 1987.
A rumor that in 1987 he would have been in a psychiatric hospital after a suicide attempt.
He returns as the band's vocalist from 1995 to 2004, when he was forced to leave.
He had developed extreme stagefright and relied heavily on alcohol to get him through performances.
He was a self-admitted alcoholic.

Bullmetal :
Well, this blog is made as a tribute to Pelle Ohlin.
As you can see it, I am also talking about Morbid and Mayhem from the beginning to nowadays.
I am talking about all the story, all what happened and what Oystein did, unfortunately after Pelle committed suicide is not a secret....
Who is Bullmetal ?
His real name was Mauricio Montoya.
He was a drummer for several bands, he was the owner of a zine called "Necrometal" and also,
was the owner of the label "Warmaster Records".
He was in contact with Oystein and received from him the picture of Pelle's suicide.
In 1995 he was responsible for the original release of Mayhem bootleg : "Dawn of the Black Hearts"
He committed suicide in December 2002.
--> Once again, don't share the picture of Pelle's suicide. Thank you.

Occultus :
Stian Johanssen was one of the original founders of the infamous "Helvete" records shop.
Also, he was in Mayhem for a very short period, a half year.
He rehearsed with Mayhem only 2 times (bass/vocals).
He left the band because (among other reasons) he put 15 copies of Blasphemy LP for sale in the Helvete shop and Euronymous never paid him after they sold (right or wrong, I can't say..).
He was the owner of "Sepulchral noise magazine".

Count Grishnackh :
After Dead's suicide, Necrobutcher left Mayhem.
He was replaced by Varg Vikernes from 1992 to 1993.
Varg played bass on "De mysteriis Dom Satanas", but Oystein parents asked to re-record the bass lines after the murder of their son.
Hellhammer said yes but nothing was done, they simply turned down the bass lines.

Conrad Schnitzler :
Conrad Schnitzler  (17 March 1937 - 4 August 2011) was a German experimental musician.
He made the intro for "Deathcrush" : Silvester Anfang (New year's beginning)
This is how he met Oystein :
"Mayhem ahahah, Oystein Aarseth phuu bad thing.
Ok, here's my story about it all.
It was a hot summerday in Berlin in my attic flat, my wife and I had decided not to open for any visitors let's  take our own time, don't let anybody disturb us.
So stoned we lay in the shadow of the attic, when the doorbell rang.
Of course we didn't open the door, we played, we're not at home.
After an hour more ringing, nobody in.
Each following hour more ringing.
We got upset.
I went to the door and faced a longhaired person, I didn't know, through the doorspy.
Night came, , the person still in front of the door, now and then a ringing.
In the morning, no more ringing, the person slept deeply at the door.
I stormed out shouting, he remained totally cool and friendly, looking like a punker same outfit metalchains and bracelets with rivets.
I should explain inbetween, that more once freaks had slept there.
It was warm and clean.
But for us it was unpleasant to trip over sleeping persons and I must confess I chased them away quite rude.
That exactly I intended to do.
But his remarkable friendliness and reasonable arguments, that he wanted to visit me, me the great artist C.S., let me calm down.
I invited him in breakfast, shower, dinner and drinks.
Afterwards we talked about my work.
He told me about his band.
But I couldn't really get an imagination about the kind of music.
I just was working on videos for a room installation.
4 videos with music playing put at different places in the room, endless repetition.
He liked the idea, and I wondered that a punk could like that.
We said "goodbye" as friends.
Now and then I received postcards with kind regards of him.
Once on a winterday I got a card with the request of him to contribute a short piece for an LP his band wanted to publish.
I took the first piece that just lay on my desk in the studio.
It was Silvester day.
I wrapped it, brought it to the post office, therefore "SILVESTER ANFANG".
Later I got the maxi LP from him.
Unfortunately I didn't know before about the music style of the band.
Otherwise I had chosen a much more ruder piece from my works.
In this way a too soft piece of music is on that LP.
I'll regret for ever.
Years later I enjoyed the money, I've got, we had never spoken of it.
Later on I had  no more personal contact with Oystein Aarseth.
Then further on I heard about his pass away and the circumstances.
I'm still depressed when I think about it.
Mayhem never again asked for another piece of work, pity.
But for circling this story just  a short note.
Yesterday I got an E-mail of BJÖRN HATTERUD (JORN STUBBERUD ?) from Norway.
I send him some rubbish of my old works.
I hope he'll be lucky with it.
That's the story of CON, OYSTEIN AARSETH, MAYHEM Norway and maybe over forever.
I hope I could help to answer your questions.
So long CON." 23th of January 2005.
Thx Warren S. ;)

  1. There is a huge mistake, about the very first singer of Mayhem in 1983, because in the lineup i cant see the names of NECROBUTCHER and MANHEIM (the very first members), Oystein does NOT started the band.

  2. There is no mistake, I have these informations from Nils himself (he was a friend of Oystein).
Oystein had already the name of the band "Mayhem" before to meet Manheim and Necro.
At the time, Necro and Manheim were in a band called "Musta".
They met Oystein and started a new band together, Oystein kept that name : Mayhem. :)

    2. Yep, I think before he met Manheim and Necro, Mayhem was not a serious project, he only made a few rehearsals with Nils, Espen and Glenn.
